Support without pressure

Parents

A quieter kind of support: presence, language-rich homes, and partnership with teachers.

01

Talk that grows language

Ask open questions at dinner: what surprised you, what confused you, what would you teach a friend. Extended talk builds the academic register schools need.

02

Reading together at any age

Share headlines, recipes, and short articles aloud. Listening models fluency; discussing meaning models thinking. Screens can wait twenty minutes.

03

Homework as partnership

Sit nearby, not over. Help them name the goal of the task, then step back. Rescue creates dependence; coaching creates stamina.

04

Working with the school

Bring specific observations to teachers—time, subject, what was attempted. Collaborative notes beat blame, and children feel safer when adults align.
